Aberdeen TUC stands alongside Aberdeen Labour in support of the local branch of the CWU (Communications Workers Union) in their #SaveOurPostOffice Campaign.
We are dismayed to hear that Aberdeen's Crown Post Office has been earmarked for Privatisation. Aberdeen Labour is holding a campaigning event in St Nicholas Street, Aberdeen on 1st December from 11-2pm to protect the Post Office from unnecessary privatisation.
Please sign the Petition by clicking here - and please get along to the Aberdeen Labour Campaign Day on
December 1st - to help protect the Post Office from unnecessary
privatisation!
To
add insult to injury, it became apparent to the CWU last week that
WHSmith - who now host many of the franchised Post Offices - had already
started to advertise for Counter Clerks in 10 out of the 74 Crown Post
Offices earmarked for privatisation. This is despite Post Office Workers
still holding their posts.
The CWU said "It is absolutely
outrageous that WHSmith is advertising for new Counter Clerks with
indecent haste when we haven't even met with the Post Office or WHSmith
under the auspices of TUPE Consultation.
In fact the Union has offered
dates to meet with both the Post Office and WHSmith and as yet there has
been no meaningful response in respect of engaging with the Union in a
formal meeting under TUPE consultation.
