AGM celebrates recovery and looks forward with confidence

Tributes were paid to outgoing Secretary, Brian Carroll and to Treasurer, Mark Chapman, as delegates attending the ATUC AGM heard that the finances are healthy once more, and more local trade unions have affiliated.

Long standing member, Jimmy Neave, called for a vote of thanks to both Brian and Mark for all their work in spearheading the ATUC recovery to the point
where we can look forward with confidence to the years ahead.

Speaking to his Annual Report, Brian told of a busy year for the ATUC with the highlight being the first May Day March in many years which marched down the entire length of Union Street.



"My heart lifted as I saw the hundreds of marchers, with their colourful banners, come together to protest the austerity measures of this UK Government," said Brian, adding that plans are already underway for this year's May Day March and Rally on 3rd May and calling for an even greater turn-out.

The AGM approved, with a minor amendment, a new Constitution and Standing Orders for the ATUC which will enable a more robust approach to the management of the Trade Union Council. A Special Meeting will be convened on 2nd April when delegates will be asked to agree the immediate implementation of the new constitution.

Delegates also agreed  the Office Bearers for 2014/15. The Secretary's post remains unfilled and it was agreed that the job-share assistant secretaries and other members of the Executive will cover the post's responsibilities between them. Click here for the full list of Office Bearers.

The ATUC will be represented at the STUC in Dundee in April by Michelle Brady and Kevin Hutchens.
